Every college coach understands the challenge of trying to unify young student-athletes from diverse backgrounds and perspectives and mold them into a cohesive team. Laura Kasey has been doing that on college volleyball coaching staffs for the past 12 years, including the last three at Minnesota. Bringing together a team requires fostering trust and communication, but it’s not required that a team function like a family. And at least they’re all human beings. That’s not true of the other group Kasey is responsible for keeping together – an eclectic collection of household pets that includes dogs, cats and a pet turtle.
